When Maokai uses W to root an enemy, immediately follow up with your damage or CC abilities. This point-and-click root creates a guaranteed window to land your skillshots and extend the crowd control duration.
Skirmish Team Fight
Maokai's E saplings deal double damage and apply stronger slows when placed in brush. Follow his lead when he takes control of bushes in lane or around objectives to capitalize on these empowered saplings.
Lane Phase Skirmish
Position to follow up when Maokai launches his R from fog of war. His ultimate is most effective when enemies can't see it coming, and roots longer the further it travels, lasting up to 2.25 seconds from maximum range.
Team Fight Skirmish
Maokai's R bramble wall is most effective in narrow corridors where enemies can't easily dodge. Jungle entrances, river pathways, and areas near walls create ideal engagement spots for his ultimate.

Before objectives like Dragon or Baron, allow Maokai time to set up saplings in nearby bushes. These provide vision and create damage zones that enemies will want to avoid, giving your team positional advantage.
