Watch which ultimate Sylas has stolen with his R before committing to a fight — his engage pattern and damage output change completely based on the copied ultimate, so plan your own crowd control and positioning around it.
Basic Team Fight
Don't count Sylas out at low health in a skirmish — his W heals for far more the lower his health is, letting him dive back into an enemy and turn a fight that looked lost.
Skirmish
When Sylas's E lands, he stuns the target briefly and then dashes in for a knock-up — hold your own crowd control until after the knock-up ends so you aren't wasting it on a target that's already locked down.

Sylas looks to gank as soon as he hits level 3 and has his full basic kit — expect his ganking pressure to start earlier than many other junglers.
Basic Lane Phase
Sylas's level 6 power spike depends entirely on which ultimate is available to steal — a strong team-fighting ultimate on the enemy team makes his ganks and dives far more dangerous at 6, while a weak enemy ultimate pool limits how much he gains.

Once Sylas uses his stolen ultimate (or its maximum 90-second hold runs out), his R goes on a long cooldown before he can steal another — track whether he's already used it before forcing a fight.
