When Master Yi activates his R (Highlander), immediately engage with him and follow up with your damage or crowd control. This 7-second window gives him significant movement and attack speed, making it his strongest fighting period.
Basic Team Fight Skirmish
Avoid forcing fights without Master Yi during the early game (0-15 minutes). He needs to powerfarm to reach his item spikes, and has limited impact unless enemies are clearly overextended.
Basic Lane Phase
Focus the same targets Master Yi attacks and help secure kills. Champion takedowns extend his R (Highlander) duration by 7 seconds and reduce his other ability cooldowns by 70%, making him exponentially more dangerous with each kill.
Team Fight
When Master Yi approaches for a gank, use your slows, roots, or stuns just before he arrives. Since he lacks built-in crowd control, your CC abilities make his ganks significantly more effective by preventing enemy escapes.
Lane Phase
Wait for Master Yi to use his Q (Alpha Strike) before using your crowd control abilities. Since Alpha Strike makes him untargetable for about 1 second, timing your CC after he reappears ensures enemies remain controlled longer.
Team Fight Skirmish
Before Baron or Dragon spawns, place control wards and clear enemy vision. Master Yi excels at securing objectives, but needs safe approaches. Proper vision control allows him to leverage his objective-taking strength without being ambushed.
Late Game
In late game teamfights, position between Master Yi and enemy CC sources. As a powerful scaling champion, he becomes extremely vulnerable to stuns and roots that can shut down his damage completely.
Advanced Team Fight Late Game
Before Master Yi engages, try to bait out important enemy crowd control abilities. Once these are on cooldown, ping to signal that it's safe for him to go in, as he's much more effective when enemies can't immediately lock him down.
Team Fight Skirmish
When Master Yi signals to dive, be ready to follow up. He can execute dives effectively using Q (Alpha Strike) to drop tower aggro and W (Meditate) to reduce damage. Your additional damage can secure kills while minimizing time under the tower.
Lane Phase Skirmish
Be aware that Master Yi's W (Meditate) can be interrupted by any hard crowd control, canceling his healing and damage reduction. Provide cover or additional crowd control on enemies when he's channeling this ability in fights.
