Stay behind a minion whenever Nautilus's Q is up — Dredge Line stops on the first enemy or terrain it hits, so a minion in the path completely blocks his stun and drag.
Basic Lane Phase
His Q has a long cooldown in the early levels — poke and trade in the window right after he misses it, since he has no other engage tool until he unlocks his ultimate.
Lane Phase
Once Nautilus hits level 6, play with more space between you and him — his R locks onto a target from medium range and can't be blocked by minions, so distance is your only real defense against it.

Spread out from your allies when Nautilus's ultimate is up — Depth Charge's eruptions knock up and stun everyone caught near its target, not just the champion he locked onto.
Team Fight Skirmish
If Nautilus commits with his Q or ultimate without backup, punish him hard — outside of dashing to his own Q's target, he has no mobility or escape once he's engaged.

Nautilus's passive can't root the same target again for several seconds after landing — trade or engage right after he uses it on you or an ally, since that root is briefly unavailable.

Stand outside short range when Nautilus casts his E — Riptide's waves expand outward from him in rings, so staying at the edge means fewer of the three hits and less of the slow.
