Move perpendicular (sideways) when Sion channels his Q — his Decimating Smash is much harder to hit when you move to the side rather than away from him, especially for fully charged knockups.
Basic Lane Phase Skirmish
Engage on Sion immediately after he misses his Q — this powerful ability has a 6-10 second cooldown (based on rank), creating a significant window where his main damage and CC tool is unavailable.
Lane Phase Skirmish
Sion's R is great for engaging and setting up ganks, but very telegraphed - you will hear a global roar when he uses it regardless of where he is on the map.
Basic Skirmish Team Fight
Position to the side of your minion wave, not directly behind it — Sion can use his E to knock minions into you, applying damage, slow, and 20% armor reduction for 4 seconds.
Lane Phase
When fighting in tight corridors or the jungle, maintain extra distance from Sion — his Q and R are significantly more effective in narrow spaces where they're harder to dodge.
Skirmish Team Fight
Use crowd control to interrupt Sion's Q channel — this puts the ability on a short 2-second cooldown instead of its full duration, creating a brief opportunity to trade favorably.
Lane Phase Skirmish
After Sion dies, he still poses a threat in his zombie form with 1.75 attack speed, 100% lifesteal, and bonus on-hit damage (10% of your max health). Keep kiting him and don't assume the fight is over.
Basic Skirmish Team Fight
Be cautious of Sion channeling Q from unwarded bushes — the visual indicator is only visible if you have sight of Sion himself, making it much harder to react in time.
Lane Phase Skirmish
When Sion crashes his ultimate into terrain, he's briefly stunned for 0.5 seconds — position in open areas to make it harder for him to hit you and increase the chance he'll hit a wall instead.
Advanced Skirmish Team Fight
Back away when Sion activates his W shield in trades — if he keeps it up for 3+ seconds, he can detonate it to deal up to 14% of your maximum health as magic damage in an area.
