When Shen reaches level 6, communicate with him before engaging in fights when he's away from your lane. The 3-second channel of his R means he needs advance notice to join effectively.
Basic Team Fight Skirmish
When Shen casts his W (Spirit's Refuge), move into the protective zone to gain immunity from enemy basic attacks for 1.75 seconds. This also blocks abilities that count as basic attacks like Ezreal's Q.
Team Fight Skirmish
Be ready to follow up when Shen lands his E (Shadow Dash) taunt. The 1.5 seconds of forced attacks on Shen creates a perfect window to land skillshots or engage with your own abilities.
Team Fight Skirmish
When Shen begins channeling his R on you, the shield appears immediately and lasts 5 seconds. Use this time to take a favorable trade or survive burst damage. The shield grows stronger the lower your health is (up to 60% stronger).
Lane Phase Team Fight
In late game teamfights, coordinate with Shen to protect your most valuable carry. His W blocks all auto attacks in the area, and his E can peel enemies off key teammates.
Late Game Team Fight
When Shen completes his ultimate to you, he will appear between you and the nearest enemy champion. Position yourself so that Shen lands in an optimal spot for follow-up taunts with his E.
Advanced Team Fight Skirmish
Be aware that Shen can split push effectively when his ultimate is available. Avoid starting fights when he's in a side lane without giving him enough time to channel his 3-second ultimate.
Late Game Team Fight
Help your Shen in the early game (pre-6) as he is vulnerable during this phase. His E (Shadow Dash) has a medium range of 600 units and missing it leaves him exposed to counter-attacks.
Basic Lane Phase
Pay attention to Shen's Spirit Blade position (enemies see an arrow pointing to it). When the blade is between Shen and his enemies, he can cast W to block auto attacks or Q to slow enemies attempting to escape.
