When Nautilus reaches level 2, be ready to follow up on his engage. His Q hook into passive root creates a powerful CC chain that can secure kills or force Summoner Spells if you react quickly with your own damage.
Basic Lane Phase
Nautilus' R is a guaranteed engage at medium range that can't be blocked by minions. Position to follow up immediately when he uses it, as the target will be knocked up and stunned for 1-2 seconds.
Team Fight Skirmish
After Nautilus engages with Q or R, time your crowd control abilities to begin as his CC effects end. This extends the total disable duration and prevents enemies from using mobility abilities to escape.
Team Fight Skirmish
Place Control Wards in brushes near objectives when playing with Nautilus. His engage is much more effective when launched from fog of war, making it harder for enemies to dodge his Q hook or anticipate his R.
Team Fight
Shield Nautilus from poke damage in lane when possible. If he gets poked down too low, he won't be able to engage effectively. Help him stay healthy so he can threaten all-ins with his CC abilities.
Basic Lane Phase
Nautilus' passive roots targets for 0.75-1.5 seconds on his first basic attack against them, with a 6-second cooldown per champion. This allows him to lock down multiple threats in team fights by attacking different enemies.
Team Fight Skirmish
When Nautilus roams from bot lane, play defensively and avoid trades. Without his engage and peel, you're vulnerable to enemy all-ins. Last hit safely until he returns or rotate to follow if appropriate.
Basic Lane Phase
When retreating, stay within medium range of Nautilus so he can use his E (Riptide) to slow pursuing enemies by 30-50%. This gives your team valuable time to reposition or turn the fight.
Skirmish Team Fight
In late-game teamfights, Nautilus excels at peeling after the initial engage. As a carry, position where he can protect you with his Q, passive root, and E slow to shut down enemy divers.
Team Fight Late Game
Nautilus can use his Q on terrain to quickly escape over walls or reposition. When chasing enemies near walls with Nautilus, consider cutting off escape paths he might not be able to follow through.
